Course Target Market
This course is suitable for anyone wishing to learn digital effects creation using After Effects.
Entry Requirements
Basic computer literacy is required. A knowledge of a non-linear editing package and Adobe Photoshop is a bonus.
Total Course Time
12 hours tutored training - 3 hours per week for four weeks. Participants should allow a further 3 hours per week for assignment and revision.
Course Description
Training will be given in the use of After Effects for the creation of titles and basic effects. Students will gain hands on experience of 2D and 3D compositing techniques, animation, titles, graphic overlays, masking and colour correction.
Course Outline
Week One
- Setting up your After Effects project.
- Creating a composition.
- Choosing your project format, frame rate and movie size.
- Using the After Effects Interface.
- The individual Tools and Panels.
- Using Workspaces / Customising your workspace / Saving workspaces
- Creating text and other graphic elements using After Effects
- Importing files into After Effects.
Week Two
- Creating a basic animation.
- Using layers.
- Transform properties of a layer.
- The principles of key framing and applying them to a layer.
Week Three
- Using masks and stencils.
- Using shape masks.
- Applying feathers to masks.
- Using the pen tool to create masks
- Animating masks
- Working with greenscreen / bluescreen footage.
Week Four
- Manipulating images and video footage.
- Using the clone tool.
- Using effects and filters.
- Exporting Files
- Setting format, frame rate and movie size.
- Render Queue
