Course Target Market
This course is aimed at those who have an interest in the Web, graphics and animation. While a graphics background may be advantageous it is not essential.
Entry Requirements
No previous animation experience is necessary. A working knowledge of computers is required. Understanding of linking in HTML would also be helpful. Access to a computer outside of class time is highly recommended. Students must provide their own storage option (memory key) to save their work from week to week for assessment in the final week.
Qualification
Participants, on satisfactory completion of the course and any related assignments, will be awarded a Certificate in Digital Animation from City & Guilds.
Total Course Time
18 hours tutored training – 3 hours per week for six weeks. Participants should allow a further 3 hours per week for assignment / revision.
Course Description:
This course provides participants with knowledge of Adobe Flash, the leading web animation tool. Following the six week course, participants will be proficient in creating fully Flashed websites as well as standalone animation. The use of sound and interactivity will be covered and an introduction to ActionScripting will be taught.

Assignment: Participants must create an animation that follows a path.
Creating More Complex Animations
Shape Tweening
Creating buttons

Assignment: Participants must create a button which animates when the mouse is moved over it.
Introduction to Flash Interactivity
Introduction to Actions & the Actions panel.
Using a button to link to another webpage and email address.
Using a button to link to another scene, frames, and labels.
Assignment: Participants must create a movie which features buttons that link to other webpages.
Adding Sound in Flash (Earphones required)
Importing Sound clips.
Using SoundForge to capture sound clips from CDs and other sources.
Manipulating Sound within Flash using Actions and Behaviours.
Synchronising a soundtrack to a movie or to an event in a movie
Assignment: Participants must add sounds to their movie
Further Flash Interactivity (Earphones required)
Creating an Action-controlled menu within a button.
Loading and unloading other Flash movies using Actions.
Using the Load movie command to create Stop and Play buttons for sound.
Assignment: Participants will create a movie that features a Flash menu
Advanced Actions
Introduction to scripting in Flash.
Using the Set Property action to control the position and appearance of a movie clip. Controlling Movie clip timelines.
Assignment: Participants must create a movie demonstrating use of actions to change the appearance of a movie clip.
Creating Flash Sites
Using Flash to design and animate an entire interface.
Creating an entire Flash website within one movie and using buttons and actions to navigate between scenes.
Using Flash Components to create forms to collate feedback from users
Assignment: Participants must create a small website within one Flash movie. Adding Video to a movies.
Linking to QuickTime video. Using embedded video.
Creating a preloader scene for a movie
Exporting Flash movies as Shockwave Files
Creating standalone projectors. Creating full screen movies in HTML and projectors files.
